Research Technician

The IMBA Institute of Molecular Biotechnology of the Austrian Academy of Science is an internationally recognized research institute that focuses on molecular medicine, stem cell research and RNA biology and is home to about 230 scientists from over 42 countries. The Grade Group seeks to understand the mechanisms of brain tissue plasticity upon injuries, and the potential of stem cell-based transplantation for brain repair.  The research group uses mouse as model organism to address these fundamental questions. Their primary goal is to expand our knowledge of the diseased brain and guide the development of strategies for repair. See more in https://www.oeaw.ac.at/imba/research/sofia-grade.
 
We are looking for a proactive team member to support us with the following tasks:

Your responsibilities:

  • Being part of an interactive group of students, postdocs and technicians with diverse backgrounds
  • Support with mouse colony maintenance
  • Ordering laboratory supplies and handling shipments
  • Maintaining stocks, resources and equipment
  • Support with tissue histology and microscopy techniques
  • Assistance with laboratory workflows for molecular biology (DNA and RNA extraction, PCR, cloning)
  • Maintaining lab records such as lab inventory, SOPs and experimental findings

Your profile:

  • Completed education in the field of Biology or related (e.g. BSc or above)
  • At least one year work experience in a Biology laboratory
  • Experience working in mice
  • Good knowledge of English
  • Strong organizational skills, reliability and a sense of responsibility
  • Enjoy working in an international team

Additional assets will be considered a plus, such as:

  • Experience with tissue preparation, vibratome sectioning, immunostaining
  • Experience with confocal and/or lightsheet microscopy
  • Experience with molecular biology (PCR, cloning, DNA and RNA extraction, etc) methods

The annual remuneration for this position is € 38.500,-  (according to collective agreement, based on a fulltime employment, 40h/w, possible overpayment depending on education, qualification and experience). Part-time employment (>20h/w) can also be considered. We aim to fill this position as soon as possible. The position is currently limited to one year and an extension is possible. Earliest possible starting date: November 1st,  2024.
